Some Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts in Milford and around greater Delaware may have been slightly dismayed in the past that the German luxury automaker was not pursuing a heads-up display option for their vehicles. However, recently reports have started to show that Mercedes-Benz has in fact changed course and are actively developing its own HUD for forthcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles, both of which are slated to arrive on the showroom floor of i.g. Burton & Co Inc. next fall.

A HUD or heads-up display projects certain driving data onto the vehicle's windshield, directly in front of the driver's eyes, allowing the operator to safely take in new information without breaking eye contact with the road. Included information can range from navigation elements to warning functions, and usually speedometer ratings.

Though Mercedes-Benz originally stated that it thought this type of technology would be distracting to drivers, it appears the brand has changed its mind- especially since many of its competitors are offering the same type of technology. Now, the company seems to be all in. As a Daimler executive explains, "This technology won't come just on one model. For the investment to pay off, it needs to be a comprehensive roll-out."1

About 1.2 million heads-up-equipped vehicles are sold annually worldwide, with manufacturers like BMW and Audi initially introducing them around 2003, though rudimentary forms of HUD could be had on the Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme back in 1988.

Today's systems are far more sophisticated and here at I.G. Burton MB we are excited to see how Mercedes-Benz designs it's HUD to benefit drivers and make Delaware roads safer for all.
