But where it truly shines, like all Mercedes do, is in its performance. The 2022 CLS features an innovative hybrid drivetrain to electrify and modernize an otherwise powerful turbo inline-six engine. This not only improves torque, but also emissions and efficiency, as well.
All told, the 2022 CLS provides a wonderful 362 horsepower from its inline-six, while integrating a 48V starter-generator. Though it only adds an extra 21 horsepower, what it does do is allow for a fuel-free coasting experience and a lessening of emissions than would normally be required on a traditional setup.
The 2022 CLS 450 4MATIC also provides torque to all the right places, making great use of a silky-smooth advanced nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Not only is more adaptable than traditional transmissions, but it’s also more dynamic. So dynamic, in fact, that Mercedes named an entire customizable driving mode after it: DYNAMIC SELECT mode.
